Resetting your Smartcard

Smartcards allow access to a range of clinical systems as well as Supervisor Self Service within ESR.

Smartcard access is controlled by certificates linked to individual smartcards. These certificates cover a 2 year period and will expire if not renewed. A smartcard with an expired certificate will not be able to access any systems.

In instances where smartcard certificates are due to expire users will be notified when they log in with their smartcard within 90 days of expiry. Users should take steps to contact a sponsor or the Registrations Authority Team in order to renew their certificate. Renewals cannot be actioned remotely as both the sponsor/RA Team member's card and the card which is due to expire must be inserted into a card reader on the same machine at the same time.

Once a smartcard certificate has expired only the Registrations Authority Team can renew and reactivate the card.
