Culture Network
The award-winning Culture Network are a dedicated group of over 600 colleagues from all levels of leadership at LUHFT. The network actively contributes to the progress of LUHFT’s cultural improvement journey and show a tireless commitment to driving change within the organisation.
The network is driven by a combined passion for making LUHFT a truly safe, kind, compassionate and inclusive place to be. A place we are all proud to learn and work and patients receive the very best care possible. In November 2023, the Culture Network were recognised by the LUHFT Chief Executive for their special and unique contribution to improving everyone’s Life at LUHFT, awarded at the Heart of LUHFT annual awards ceremony.
This award reflects the achievements, hard work and dedication of the network, who live the values of the Trust every day, as well as empower others to create a workplace we all want to be a part of.
The Advancing Culture Together (ACT team):
The self-titled ACT team are a group of 70 individuals who dedicate around 1.5 days per month to supporting change throughout the organisation. The team consists of colleagues from all levels, banding, and job roles and are a true representative slice of the organisation. They help to ensure that everyone at LUHFT has a voice and an opportunity to contribute to the improvements we are making. Acting as a voice for colleagues, the ACT team (who meet monthly), provide challenge, feedback, ideas and innovative thinking to culture workstreams and changes. Some considerable work that the ACT team have done since their inception in December 2022, includes:
- Interviewing the LUHFT board as part of the Discovery phase of the Culture and Leadership Programme, playing a pivotal role in finding out what Culture means to our senior leaders, and helping the organisation to understand LUHFTs cultural position at a point in time.
- Facilitating Discovery phase focus groups with colleagues who had not yet had the opportunity to tell us what it feels like to learn and work at LUHFT.
- Synthesising and theming the outcomes of the January 2023 ‘Let’s Talk’ engagement conversation, helping the organisation to create the Culture and Leadership Strategic Plan for 2024.
- Recruiting and supporting LUHFT Cultural ambassadors. Each ACT member has a group of ten culture ambassadors, who they have recruited themselves and support each month with the cascading of cultural messages throughout the Trust.

A few words from our ACT team, as they share what they are most proud of on the journey so far:
- “Being part of a group of likeminded people, who have a shared aim to make LUHFT a great place to work!”
- “Seeing a difference that is recognised at such a high level (Special Achievement award from CEO).”
- “That we are still here (12 months later), still growing, still being effective and have the same levels of enthusiasm as we did when we started this journey together”.
Culture Ambassadors
The 450 LUHFT Culture Ambassadors work tirelessly to create the right cultural conditions to have two-way conversations with colleagues at LUHFT about the changes and improvements that are being made within the organisation. Spending around two hours per month, they voluntarily deliver key messages and updates to colleagues around them, ensuring everyone has a voice and can contribute to the improvements to the way we do things here at LUHFT. We are continuously recruiting to the Culture ambassador role and if someone who lives LUHFT values every day and want to be a role model for culture change at LUHFT please watch the below video to see how you can get involved:
A few words from the Culture Network on why you should come and join them on the journey to making LUHFT a place we are all proud of:
- “Just think about the impact you can have; it only takes one!”
- “This work has tangible, real benefits for us all”.
- “I would encourage everyone to join the network, this experience has been nothing but positive and such a good learning experience too”.
The work of the Culture Network is recognised throughout the Trust as a crucial vehicle that has worked to implement massive change and improvements for patients and staff.
