LUHFT’s Cultural Ambition

LUHFT has big ambitions for the future, and this includes a clear plan and vision for how it should feel to live, work and receive care in the Trust. LUHFT’s current cultural position has been realised through following the NHS Culture and Leadership Development Programme, focussing on kindness and compassion in the way we do things.

This also includes having a dedicated culture network of people-centred, passionate colleagues who are working hard to improve things in the organisation. This has allowed LUHFT to identify immediate and longer terms cultural priorities for the future and the way we do things.

This includes:

Developing LUHFT Leaders

LUHFT has a clear vision for the leadership we want to see in our organisation and recognises that we are all leaders, who all have a part to play in making the Trust a great place to learn and work. We know that the culture of our trust shapes the behaviour and experience of everyone within it; it is a critical enabler of our improvement journey as an organisation. Research shows that the most powerful factor that influences culture is leadership; and so, we are investing and harnessing the power of our leaders to enable staff to feel valued and proud to work at LUHFT. Throughout the cultural improvement work we have identified the kind of leadership we are looking for at LUHFT. This includes: compassionate, inclusive and collective leaders, who encourage all colleagues to recognise the part they play at LUHFT. The right tools, resources, learning and frameworks are being carefully crafted, co-created alongside our leaders who will be at the centre of their own development.

Building a Kinder LUHFT

Through following the Culture and Leadership Programme, and hearing from our colleagues, patients and partners about what their hopes are for the organisation, we were able to understand, the behaviours that need to be seen in the organisation to make sure we all feel valued and cared for. This includes appreciating one another, being kind and compassionate and being able to give appreciative feedback as well as kind and constructive feedback. The organisation is a on a mission to weave kindness into every stage of employee experience at LUHFT, including our recruitment policies and processes, our onboarding experience, and the way we support colleagues to resolve issues. Developing our Culture Network

The LUHFT Culture network consists of engaged, passionate and dedicated colleagues who strive to create good days at work for all. As LUHFT continues to improve, the Culture Network will remain a key vehicle for change, ensuring everyone has a LUHFT has an opportunity to have a voice, and is empowered to cultivate the culture we wish to see. As part of the development of our Culture Network into 2024, we will be co-creating a future operating model to ensure the network is sustainable and fit for the future. We will also be working to ensure the network is representative of our organisation, constantly recruiting, to ensure everybody is given the opportunity to get involved in the positive changes we make.
