  2. Well being and sickness absence policy: Review the policies as it details various types of sickness, whether physical or mental health-related, short or long term and will provide support and guidance for you as a manager. 
  3. Return-to-Work Programs: Ensure that you have a comprehensive return-to-work plan that facilitate a smooth transition back to work which may include phased returns and reasonable adjustments. Seek support from occupational health if required. 
  4. Emotional Support: Provide emotional support through regular well being conversations and signposting to resources and support services.  
  5. Inclusive Culture: Foster an inclusive culture that reduces the stigma associated with sickness absence and encourages employees to seek help without fear of negative consequences.

Looking After Yourself During Sickness Absence

  1. Self-Care: Prioritise self-care by engaging in activities that promote physical and mental health, such as movement/ exercise, connection to others, ensure you are eating healthily and getting adequate rest.
  2. Medical Care: Follow medical advice and attend all necessary appointments to ensure proper treatment and recovery.
  3. Stay Connected: Maintain a level of connection with your work area/ manager and colleagues to feel involved and informed, but avoid overloading yourself with work-related stress. If you are on any work groups / whatsapps groups either mute them or explain that you are temporarily leaving them while you are absent. 
  4. Plan for Return: Gradually prepare for your return to work by staying updated on any major changes or developments in your absence, ensuring a smoother transition back.
