Team Engagement and Development – The Vision

Here at LUHFT, our ambition is to make the organisation the best place to work and learn, which then helps to create the conditions to make it the best place for our patients to receive care. One of the key enablers to achieving this is the TED Tool, which will assist our teams to harness their capabilities and equip Leaders with a structured framework to enhance engagement and high performance. This in turn empowers our colleagues and places them at the heart of decision making. Building this capability and capacity throughout the organisation and giving team leaders the autonomy to take their teams on a developmental journey, will create a sustainable evidence-based approach that facilitates continues improvement and delivers impact.

What is TED?

TED means Team Engagement and Development, it was developed and grounded on the research of what makes a high performing, effective and engaged team. Using this online diagnostic tool, will provide tangible data and offer a great way of measuring the impact of the things the team are doing.

TED in a nutshell:

  • TED is an evidence-based tool which measures the key areas of high performing and highly engaged teams. It measures 8 different areas which are Team Purpose, Working Together, Working with Other Teams, Team Communication, Review and Celebrate Success, Valuing Individuals, Leadership and Engagement… (and it only takes 5 minutes to complete the questionnaire).
  • It supports team leaders and teams to identify areas of effectiveness and where improvements can be made to improve team working and engagement.
  • On the TED website team leaders will have access to resources, tools and guidance so they can develop their team. The resources are designed to facilitate meaningful conversations with teams about what matters to them.
  • TED measures the key areas which research has proven leads to improvements on a range of outcomes including: lower mortality rates, reduced error rates, increased innovation, reduced turnover, sickness and more.

Testimonial

"Since starting the TED journey in September 2022, for myself as a new line manager/team leader has been a great way to introduce a positive way of team working. Sharing and promoting team ideas through using TED and the TED tools provided have been essential in working towards merging our teams and providing healthy, psychologically safe ways in doing so.

This has been initially tentatively embraced by the teams, although we are still within its infancy, has been welcomed and we are moving forward with excellent ideas to merge our teams and putting these firmly in place within LUHFT. By using the TED tools it has enabled my team to become more confident with the processes of merging and the confidence to raise ideas and think how these meet within the Trust's values.

From starting this and continuing with this process I can see our team growing together with more confidence and ability to do so. The guidance given is fantastic and really enables you as a leader to grow with your team and celebrate the successes together, utilising the TED tools to back up the knowledge and skills that you already have as a team and individual.

I would highly recommend this to any team who are going through any processes that they may be struggling with or that may be very new to the team. This is a great support and a great network to have within and beyond your team. I am so very pleased that this was recommended to me and this has been available in our Trust, as I can't recommend this highly enough as a journey to go on with your team."
