WageStream

What is Wagestream InstantPay?

Wagestream is a charity-backed organisation used by over 1 million people worldwide.

They are working with us to let staff track and instantly access their wages whenever they need to, save direct from their salaries, and access financial education.

Can all employees of the Trust use the service?

Currently this is limited to non-medics but in the near future will include medics too.

There are further limitations, including the below:

  • Wagestream uses Faster Payments, so employees who use building society accounts using the old style roll number will not be able to enrol into Wagestream. This can be overcome by moving to a newer style "regular" bank account , with a standard account number and sort code.
  • Bank only employees who are not rostered via Allocate will unable to access the service.  Only Allocate rostered bank only employees, or any substantive employees can access the service.
  • Employees working their notice will be unable to use the service.

I don’t want Wagestream to receive my data.  How can I stop them receiving it?

Wagestream do not hold any data upfront. Once the employee downloads the app, completes their details and ticks the T&Cs, Wagestream can then verify their assignment against ESR and that is when they capture salary information and then further match with Healthroster for any shifts etc.  If you do not give them permission to do this, then Wagestream do not have any data regarding you.

How do I enrol?

Simply download the free Wagestream app from your relevant app store, enter your preferred email address and some key employment details (you’ll need your 8 digit primary assignment number to hand!) then wait for enrolment to complete. This will take 24 – 48 hours to complete.

Wagestream have asked for my bank details.  Is this a scam?

No this is not a scam.   When you enrol in Wagestream your bank details in ESR will be updated. This is how Wagestream works and processes the funds if you stream, so it's nothing to worry about. Once this happens you'll receive a notification via ESR to let you know your bank details have been updated.

Is my data safe?

Yes, Wagestream meets all of the data security standards as would be expected of an organisation working with NHS and payroll data.

I don’t understand my wages now that I’ve taken a ‘stream’ of my salary via InstantPay

Wagestream customer support is available 24/7 and employees can gain support via chat functionality in the app. 95% of enquiries are answered within 30 minutes.  Wagestream will be happy to discuss any of your queries in relation to streamed salary.  As always, the Trust Payroll team will be able to assist with other payroll matters but they will be unable to see deductions made by Wagestream as this happens after the payroll.

Can I use this system as a savings account?

Yes.  You can save directly from your pay each month if you choose to do this.

How can I avoid getting into debt?

Wagestream gives you instant access to a percentage of the pay you’ve already earned throughout the month so there are no loans and no interest. There is a flat rate of £1.75 per stream, no matter the amount of the stream.  Wagestream puts you back in control of when you get paid and takes the stress out of waiting for payday where unexpected bills may have cropped up. Wagestream is intended to support employees’ financial health for every day and the unexpected, however the Trust will be restricting the amounts that employees can stream so that employees salary deductions such as tax, NI, student loans are still able to be met when payday comes around.

Wagestream has bite-sized financial education content that is provided by their expert partners The Money Charity and Money Advice Services, to put you onto a path of financial freedom. The Coach part of the app provides impartial tips and tricks to help you make the most of your money.

Why am I charged per transaction?

This cost is set by Wagestream for the use of their service.  The Trust do not have any influence over this.

How many transactions can you get in one go?

  • Colleagues may stream up to 1 time per week (weekly paid staff) or 4 times per monthly pay period.
  • 20% of your earned wages are available to access as they are earned and submitted to Wagestream.  40% of enhancements are available.

NOTE: These limits may be subject to increase in the future after the initial launch period.

What will show on my payslip if I use Wagestream?

Your pay slip will look the same as usual and if you used Wagestream during the pay period, will be different to what you see paid into your bank account.  This is since your pay slip and your Wagestream account show different information as they track different aspects of your finances.

Look to your pay slip to see the following:

  • Your total wages including any variable pay such as sick pay
  • Any deductions for taxes, NI contributions, etc.

NOTE: Your Wagestream activity will not be reflected in your pay slip

Look to your Wagestream account monthly statement to see the following:

  • Your net wages for worked shifts or salaried pay
  • Any transfers you’ve made through Wagestream
  • Any fees incurred for transfers made
  • Any savings contributions you’ve set aside through ‘Save’

Look to the Track section of your Wagestream app to see the following:

  • Your gross estimated wages for worked shifts or salaried pay
  • Any transfers you’ve made through Wagestream
  • Any fees incurred for transfers made

There will be some virtual drop-in sessions over the coming weeks for staff to ask any questions of the team a Wagestream. See below for details.
