The Step up Programme for Aspiring Managers (ILM 3)

Course Description

Aspiring Managers Programme (with option to complete ILM Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management)

The Aspiring Managers programme aims to provide new or aspiring line managers with the leadership skills, knowledge and behaviours required to manage and successfully develop teams. The programme consists of following elements:

Induction: Intro to the programme with learners and their line managers prior to starting the programme (1 hour Microsoft Teams)

Day 1: Understanding Leadership and Management (Face to face taught module)

Day 2: Managing and Leading Teams and Individuals (Face to face taught module)

Day 3: Managing People and Performance (Face to face taught module)

Day 4: Contributing to Improvements & Planning Change (Face to face taught module)

Day 5: Reflections/PDP & Tutorial Time (Face to face)

Day 6: Impact Evaluation (1 hour session six weeks post course on Microsoft Teams)

This programme is now part of the new LUHFT Leadership Development Pathway 2 and is accredited through the Institute of Leadership and Management, so if you complete this course you have the option of gaining an Level 3 Award in Leadership & Management. 

You will need to have a development conversation with your line manager before commencing the programme, to ensure that the learning objectives are understood and you can both agree how you (the learner) will embed that learning back in your place of work after the programme ends to develop your skills, practices and behaviour. To help your managers better understand this process, we ask that they attend the programme induction with you on Microsoft Teams. Dates, time and link for this will be sent to everyone once your booking has been confirmed.

The ask from learners and managers

To attend this programme, Aspiring Managers will need to be released for 5 days over 5 consecutive weeks. They will also need to complete a learner agreement form which will include:

The Aspiring Managers programme forms part of LUHFT's Learning Pathway 3.

To access pathway 3, please have a development conversation with your manager before completing the declaration found in the pathway documentation.

You will be an aspiring manager at Bands 3-6 with a view to taking on management responsibilities within the next 12-18 months (although please contact us to discuss if you fall outside of one of these Bands), or a newly appointed manager within the last 12 months.

How to book 

Learning and Development has now gone fully self-service with ESR. This means rather than using the L&D portal on your desktop to book onto our courses, you will book your place directly through ESR.
