Moving and Handling

This training session is for clinical staff working in direct contact with patients. This is a trust mandatory requirement and has to be updated every three years.


 COVID-19 ADVICE

  • Please do not attend if you or any family member has any COVID-19 symptoms
  • Masks, hand sanitiser and hand washing facilities will be provided
  • Please bring your own refreshments
  • Please maintain 2m distancing at all times other than whilst participating in practical training maintain a minimum of 1m distancing, wear a mask and regular hand cleansing.
  • Please report to the Manual Handling Advisor on arrival so you can be entered on the register
  • All equipment will be cleaned prior and during use

 Learning outcomes

  1. Awareness of the principles of safe patient handling and use of equipment
  2. Awareness of controversial techniques
  3. Awareness of the importance of safety checks for all equipment including sling inspection
  4. Confident and competent using patient handling equipment including sling inspection
  5. Importance of patient risk assessment/patient ability
  6. Awareness of bariatric patient referral and equipment process
  7. Awareness of good back care and posture

 Notes

  1. Please attend wearing suitable clothing and footwear as you will be practicing patient handling tasks.
  2. Please inform the manual handling advisor of any reasons you cannot participate in the practice sessions.
